The Wealth-Happiness Connect

The Wealth-Happiness Connect

It’s an age-old question that isn’t going to die down anytime soon. You probably wonder, are the super rich who own islands, personal jets and jewellery collections happier than the rest of us? Does material wealth guarantee a good life?

Well, the deal is that there’s a level of contentment in being wealthy but people are happier when they use the wealth for their basic needs and occasionally lavishing it on themselves. Therefore, it’s the experience that counts.

The adage that “the grass is greener on the opposite side” calls to mind but it isn’t really true. The rich have their fair share of problems: relationships, unresolved emotions, lifestyle and social expectations etc.Its the wealthy that makes them feel important though. After all, happiness doesn’t imply perfection.

A definite sum of money is required to advance towards contentment and security. Money allows us to afford basic necessities, without which it is difficult to remainhappy; which is the connect between money and happiness.

There’s an inherent human yearning to desire for more. We wish for a pay rise, a better house, a new car etc.Once we get them, we miscalculate the delight these items generate. We shouldn’t let the longing for material possessions overcomeus. If we focus on what we have or don’t have, wealth becomes the beginning of unhappiness and after a while you are trapped in the same old frustrations.

What will bring fulfilment and joy is the moment you take to appreciate your achievements and what you have, bearing in mind the fine things that count such as well-being and family.

It’s good to have money and all things that wealth can buy but its better not to lose the good life that wealth can’t buy
